The man behind the microphone

Following the race. Finding the story.

From the club circuit to the commentary box

Alex Reed comes from Oxford, England. His love of motorsport began as a child at small racing circuits: crackling loudspeakers, the smell of warm brakes and a father who insisted that the racing had always been better in his day.

Alex first picked up a microphone at club races. He later wrote race reports, interviewed drivers and commentated on community racing. Historic touring cars, classic single-seaters and endurance racing have a particular hold on him. He loves cars that make the struggle between driver, machine and circuit plain to see.

Every race has more than one story

For Alex, every race tells several stories. While the leaders fight for victory, someone further down the field may be trying to recover from a poor start. Spotting those developments and making them easy to follow is his greatest strength.

At the microphone, Alex is warm, attentive and unmistakably British. A close battle quickens his delivery; a decisive overtaking move brings an unguarded burst of excitement. When the race settles, he makes time for background stories and conversation.

Alongside Miles Hartley

Alex and Miles Hartley share a love of classic motorsport. Alex values Miles's experience and dry humour. From time to time, he draws him out with a bold opinion and enjoys a well-aimed reply just as much.
